Automobile Information
Driver's Licenses
- New residents must apply for a driver's license within 30 days of relocating to the state.
- Vision and written tests are required; road tests are given at the discretion of the examiner.
- Apply at the North Carolina Department of Motor Vehicles at the following locations:

Automobile Registration
- Auto licenses must be purchased within 30 days of relocating in the state.
- Title of car or name of lienholder, proof of insurance and odometer reading are required.

Education
Education is one of the most valued assets in the Weaverville/Asheville Area. Buncombe County School System is the state's 11th largest school system and the largest district in Western North Carolina. We employ nearly 4,000 people and serve more than 25,000 students, making BCS the county's second largest employer. More than 55 different languages are spoken in our 41 schools.
Accreditation
Buncombe County schools are fully accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. BCS has one of the highest percentages of nationally board certified teachers in the state and region.
2010 SAT Scores
BCS' scores consistently rank among the top five in North Carolina. In 2010, Buncombe County ranked third the state among school systems with more than two high schools. Six of eight Buncombe County high schools posted total mean scores exceeding the national average.
