2022 MLK Commemoration Program Update

MLK Day, the third Monday of January each year, we come together to celebrate and commemorate a great leader, Martin Luther King Jr. The Town is committed, first and foremost, to the safety and wellbeing of our community. Although a difficult decision, we will not be hosting the annual Martin Luther King Jr. commemoration program due to potential inclement weather and rising Covid-19 cases.

In the wise words of Martin Luther King Jr, “If I cannot do great things, I can do small things in a great way.” We encourage each of you to remember these words throughout this weekend and reflect on the monumental impacts Mr. King has had on the past, present, and the future of our country. Martin Luther King Jr. has shown us the power of speaking up, how to be a true leader, and how to stay strong in the face of adversity.

However you choose to spend your day on January 17th, 2022, the Town of Weaverville hopes that it is full of reflection, gratitude, and safety.
