The Town of Weaverville is organized into several different departments that specialize in distinct areas of expertise and help keep the Town running smoothly. Each department is managed by a department head, all of whom report to the Town Manager. Following is an overview of each department’s primary area of responsibility. The Weaverville Administration Department is home to the Town Manager who serves as the chief executive officer of the Town. Administration includes such functions as budget, finance, tax collections,Town Clerk and Town Attorney. The department consists a total of 6 staff members including the Town Manager (3 in Finance, a Town Clerk and a part-time Town Attorney). The Town Manager oversees all department heads and employees.
The Weaverville Fire Department, consisting of 24 full time and 10 part time personnel, plays a critical role in public safety for the Town, responding to fires, medical emergency calls, and other hazardous situations. The department also works to educate the public about safety issues and inspects businesses for proper fire safety and suppression equipment. The Weaverville Fire Department has achieved an ISO rating of 2 within Town limits and a 3 in the North Buncombe Fire District.
The Weaverville Planning and Zoning department, a department of one employee, includes planning and zoning as well as code enforcement. This department oversees the administration and management of the Town’s Planning and Development Ordinances, and the Comprehensive Land Use Plan. The Planning Director also works with the Planning Board and the Board of Adjustment.
The Weaverville Police Department is charged with maintaining a low crime rate through law enforcement and educating the community about public safety and crime issues. The Department has 16 uniformed officers and 1 administrative assistant. One officer serves as detective and one a school resource officer.
The Weaverville Public Works Department, consistenting of 18 employees, is responsible for providing a number of essential services to the citizens of the Town in 3 divisions: Sanitation, Streets Maintenance and Parks Maintenance. The Town’s Water Superintendent works directly under the Public Works Director but operates the Town’s water plant independently.
