Patrick Fitzsimmons was selected as Mayor in August 2021. Patrick is the former Executive Director of Mountain BizWorks, which provides business training, coaching, and lending to small businesses in Western North Carolina. He previously served with the American Red Cross for 28 years. For a decade, Fitzsimmons was the regional CEO for the Red Cross of Western North Carolina, retiring in 2012.

Fitzsimmons has served on many boards and in many other volunteer, leadership capacities for other non-profit agencies and charities. He has lived on South Main Street in Weaverville since 2004 and has volunteered on the Weaverville Economic Development Advisory Board, Art in Autumn and Citizens’ Academy. He is proud to be able to serve his hometown of Weaverville.

Jeff McKenna, Vice-Mayor

Vice-Mayor McKenna was the Senior Vice President for Speakeasy, Inc., an Atlanta-based global communications development and consulting company. He previously spent over 30 years in technology sales and sales management, from large companies to startups, including NCR, Symbol Technologies and Motorola. He has volunteered with Venture Asheville, an organization that mentors WNC-based startups in technology, climate change and food service. Prior to joining town council he was the Chairman of the Weaverville Zoning Adjustment Board, which he served on for over 10 years. He and his wife Rhonda completed the Weaverville Citizen’s Academy program.

McKenna holds a B.A. degree in economics from the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, where he was a member of the university rowing team. He and Rhonda enjoy camping, hiking and boating. Their daughter Emily is a graduate of North Buncombe and UNC Chapel Hill, and works for First Citizens in Raleigh.

Doug Jackson, Councilman

Councilman Doug Jackson graduated from Auburn University with a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering with post-graduate courses in business at University of North Carolina at Asheville. He is also a graduate of the Akzo School of Management in the Netherlands. Mr. Jackson held several diverse positions at American Enka, including process engineer, sales executive, marketing manager, director of planning, as well as director of strategic planning for Akzo America.

For the 18 years prior to his retirement, Mr. Jackson ran his own business focused on international market research and consulting in high-performance textile applications. Many of these projects related to protecting our American troops in the Iraqi  War, as well as law enforcement officers and firefighters.

Councilman Jackson has been a resident of Weaverville since 1974, where he raised his two daughters. He is a member and Ruling Elder at Brittains Cove Presbyterian Church,  a member of the Nature Park Steering Committee,  Weaverville Economic Advisory Committee, and the Commemorative Ceremony Committee.  His hobbies include fly-fishing, woodworking,  gardening, and family activities.

Andrew Nagle is a 1987 graduate of Appalachian State University and is currently the Executive Vice President at A-B Emblem, where he has worked since 1991. He has served in the past on the Board of Directors of the Asheville Area Chamber of Commerce, the Economic Development Coalition for Asheville-Buncombe County, and is currently on the board for the Manufacturers Executive Association. A resident of North Carolina since 1983, Nagle has lived in the Weaverville area since 1995 with his wife and two children.

John Chase, Council Member

John Chase joined the Town Council in 2021, after serving as Town of Weaverville Planning Board member for the last three years.  He has ownership in Medlock & Associates Engineering, a local company specializing in structural engineering and construction management, and he also maintains certification as a North Carolina licensed building contractor.

A long-time resident of North Carolina, John moved to Asheville to attend UNC-A, graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in environmental studies.  He fell in love with the area and never left.  He and his wife moved from Asheville to Downtown Weaverville in 2006 to raise their family, joining his wife’s mother and father, and connecting four generations of family to Weaverville.

John is a NICA (National Interscholastic Cycling Association) certified coach for the Buncombe County composite mountain biking team, Pisgah Rage, for which his youngest daughter rides.  He and his wife are active in their two teenage daughters’ adventures in classical, traditional, and old-time music, and the family enjoys the outdoors.

Michele Wood, Council Member

Michele Wood retired to Weaverville after 25 years as a leadership development coach and trainer with State Farm Insurance, Texas Regional Office.

For several years she was a volunteer counselor with the Dallas Crisis Center, and a volunteer with Catholic Charities USA where she helped refugees prepare for citizenship interviews and exams.

Michele has completed graduate coursework at SMU Dallas in Dispute Resolution & Mediation and was certified to be appointed by the Texas courts to mediate family disputes.

More recently, she has completed the Weaverville Citizens’ Academy, a series of workshops led by town department heads, staff, and elected officials offering insights as to how our town functions.

She has also become active with the Dry Ridge Museum here in town, helping to lay the groundwork for community outreach programs and developing orientation training for new volunteers.

Michele Wood and her husband John Bowen have lived in downtown Weaverville since 2016. She has two children, a son in Austin, TX and a daughter in Bluffton, SC.

Catherine Cordell was elected to council in November 2021. She previously served 9 years on the Planning & Zoning Board. Mrs. Cordell holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from Western Carolina University.  She spent 15 years working as a Supply Chain Manager for Cardinal Health and Precept Medical, another 10 years with Coca-Cola and Farnam Custom Products.

Currently Catherine & her husband Roger enjoy working part-time, traveling the USA and volunteering. Don’t be surprised to see Catherine & Roger with their little black rat-terrier walking the streets of Weaverville or relaxing in the Nature Park.

Mrs. Cordell was born & raised in Mars Hill, NC but has called Weaverville home for 30 years. She is passionate about managing growth in the downtown district and focused on improving pedestrian safety while maintaining the small-town charm.

Jennifer has provided legal services to local governments for over 20 years. She was appointed as the Town Attorney for Weaverville in 2016 and enjoys serving not only the Mayor, Town Council and Town Manager, but also the Town’s Zoning Board of Adjustment, Planning and Zoning Board and various Department Heads. She also serves, on an as-needed basis, as the attorney for the Weaverville Alcoholic Beverage Control Board and as the City Attorney for Marion, North Carolina. With a sole focus on local government law she is able to focus her time, attention and expertise on the shared, but unique, needs of government leaders committed to making a difference in their communities. She is a graduate of Clemson University and University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
