Mayor Statement on ICE
There have been concerns and rumors circulating about a possible expansion of U.S. Customs and Border Protection operations in Buncombe County. We want to assure our community that, while the Weaverville Police Department will continue to follow all state and federal laws as required, our resources will remain dedicated to the public safety needs of Weaverville residents, as they always have.
We will not allocate town resources to support the enforcement of civil immigration violations. The Town of Weaverville is not a participant in the federal 287(g) program, which would place local officers under the supervision of ICE or other federal agencies.
We value the relationships we have built within our community and remain devoted to helping people feel safe.
