NCDOT 1-26 Traffic Notice
Beginning June 24thThe Department of Transportation is providing the Town of Weaverville with notice regarding the upcoming traffic shift on I-26 just east of Exit 19. This shift will transition westbound traffic onto the new alignment to facilitate construction of Stage III of the bridge. NCDOT recognizes that the Town may have already experienced impacts from the preparation work undertaken this week, and NCDOT appreciates the publics’ patience as they move through this critical phase of the project.
The contractor will begin nightly closures this evening, 6/24 at 7:00 p.m., continuing through Friday night 6/26, when the traffic shift is currently scheduled to occur. We are closely monitoring weather conditions; therefore, the shift may be postponed to later in the weekend. Should this occur, daily travel may be affected, as we are committed to completing the traffic shift once it has begun.
DETOURS THRU WEAVEVILLE – DISCOURAGED!
We discourage detours through Main Street, Weaverville, as remaining on the highway will generally result in faster travel times. Please drive carefully, cautiously, and please slow down adjacent to construction workers as it is the law! Thank you
