The Town of Weaverville Fire Department is accepting applications for the Fire Chief for the incorporated Town limits and the North Buncombe Fire District. The Fire Chief is responsible for all operations of the Department, overseeing staff, operations, community risk reduction efforts, and providing strong leadership to the Department. This position is also responsible for planning, directing, managing, and overseeing daily activities and operations of the Department, including fire suppression, fire prevention, hazardous materials response, disaster preparedness, and related programs, services, and operations.

The ideal candidate for this position must possess excellent interpersonal skills, a highly developed knowledge of emergency service delivery, responsible and fair human resource skills, and experience leading a dedicated workforce. The Fire Chief reports directly to the Town Manager. The Weaverville Fire Department is comprised of one station that provides fire, emergency medical, and rescue services to the Town and North Buncombe District.

The preferred candidate should possess a Bachelor’s degree (Masters and/or an Executive Fire Officer Program graduate from the National Fire Academy is preferred) in a fire or emergency management-related profession or technical field or any combination  of education and experience. Candidates should possess a minimum of 10 years of career fire service experience in a leadership role.
