News Updates for Tuesday, October 8

WATER

  • The Water Treatment Plant is currently working. Please continue to conserve, and boil your water for at least one minute before consumption.
    • We will start testing water this week at different locations throughout the system.
  • Contractors continue to work on the water line break under Reems Creek, with the goal of everyone in our service area having water by Friday.
  • The potable water container is available in the parking lot at the Community Center.
  • Water and food distribution at North Windy Ridge School 12pm – 4pm. Bring your own water containers.

TRASH AND DEBRIS COLLECTION

  • Town trash collection has resumed. Recycling will resume Monday.
  • Public Works continues with debris cleanup and road clearing.
    • Yard debris must be in a loose pile or a brown bag to be picked up. No other container will be picked up.

SAFETY

  • Please lock your cars, and don’t drive at night if you don’t have to.

TOWN ADMINISTRATIVE OPERATIONS

  • Town Hall and the Community Center are now open Mon – Fri 8:30am – 5:00pm. Please feel free to use the Community Center for phone charging, meeting up with folks, and wifi access. The free Town of Weaverville internet network (no password) is restored and available at the Community Center. Use caution on unsecured networks.

OTHER INFORMATION AND RESOURCES

  • If you need help with immediate financial help or hotel vouchers, register with FEMA now. Visit gov or call 1.800.621.3362.
  • County briefings have changed to once daily at 11am. Tune in at AM 570, FM 88.1, or online through their Facebook page.
  • WalMart has free restrooms, laundry, showers, and food daily from

12pm – 6pm.

  • The B.E.A.R. Closet on Main St. has resources for babies, families, and pets. Distribution is 10am – 2pm Monday – Friday.
  • Duke continues to work restoring power throughout the service area.
  • Buncombe County landfill (85 Panther Branch Road, Alexander) is open Monday – Friday from 6am – 6pm and Saturday from 8am – 3pm.
