News Updates for October 10, 2024

FOOD, WATER, AND SUPPLIES

  • Continue to conserve and boil your water for at least one minute before consumption. We have sent water samples and await test results.
  • Contractors are working to complete the tie-in under Reems Creek today.
  • A potable water bladder is in the parking lot at the Community Center. Water and food distribution is at North Windy Ridge School 12pm – 4pm. Bring your own water containers to both locations.
  • The Hillside Community Center is collecting and distributing donations for disaster relief at 35 Hillside Street, Weaverville. This includes water, pantry items and can openers, pet food, children’s books, clothing, blankets, medical and personal items, and more. They are open daily from 8am – 6pm.
  • Home well water testing kits are available at 30 Valley Street in Asheville Mon – Fri 8am – 5pm.

TRASH AND DEBRIS COLLECTION

  • On Wednesday, Oct 9th, our Public Works Department collected 27 tons of garbage. On a typical day, they pick up 10 tons.
  • Household trash will be accepted at the North Buncombe School Pool (734 Clarks Chapel Rd.) on Friday, Oct 11th from 8:30am – 4:30pm.
  • The Transfer Station at 190 Hominy Creek Rd in Asheville is open for residential bagged trash Mon – Fri 8am – 4:30pm and Saturday 8am -1pm.
    • Currently, there is no charge for Buncombe County residents who bring bagged trash to Transfer station. Use caution on the access road – Hominy Creek Road still has dirt/silt along the edges of roadway.

  • County briefings are once daily at 11am. Tune in at AM 570, FM 88.1, or online.
  • Duke continues to work to restore power throughout Town, now tackling some of the more complex fixes including trees on lines and broken poles.

  • The Community Center is open Mon – Fri 8:30am – 5pm for phone charging, internet, and bathrooms. There are outlets indoors and on the patio.
  • Early voting will begin at the Community Center on October 17th
